Trip Planning

Obviously it is down to personal preference and how much space you have as to what you bring along with you. Listed below are what we consider from experience to be the essentials to camping in reasonable comfort with the ability to feed yourself and fellow Lemaniacs.

  Essentials
  Personal Kit
  Group Kit
  Routes
  Circuit

Essentials

Money in Euros   Do not get off the ferry without, Bureux de Change is non existent in le Mans. It will cause offence to your fellow campers if you expect to eat or drink without contributing to the whip

Sense of humour   Absolutely essential for a successful weekend If you still think PC means Police Constable carry on, if however your into Political correctness, give up now you are not going to enjoy this. Expect lots of wind ups, abuse and loud noise at all times of the day and night

Personal toilet roll   Don't expect others to provide, a refusal may cause offence as after a weekend of beer and barbeque's, it's every man for themselves and a sheet of paper could be a very strong bargaining tool

  Documents
Passport It is recommended that you carry a photocopy as well, in case of losing the original.
Driving License Ensure that there are two drivers for every car, if you get an on the spot ban, which is possible in France, the car will be impounded unless you can show that someone else is licensed and insured to drive. We have heard of circumstances where people have handed over photocopies of documents and managed to keep the originals but we are not sure how reliable this info is.
Car Insurance Inform your insurance before leaving the country and check whether you are covered full comp or 3rd party. Although your insurance should be valid Europe wide, some insurance companies only cover you for third party cover once you leave the UK.
V5C Vehicle Registration document It is a legal requirement to carry this. Also if you are driving a company car ensure you have permission to take the vehicle out of the UK.
E111/ EHIC European Health Insurance Card
Travel insurance Hopefully this will never be required but it's your life and your responsibility should you fall ill or have an accident.
Breakdown Insurance From personal experiences by members we recommend Britannia Rescue. (see Mr Recovery for experiences). AA five star was not so good for bikes

Prearranged space in tent Do not expect to just show up and be accomodated, space is precious

Common Sense We can only advise you take the above but if you choose not to, your on your own.

Personal Kit

Sleeping Bag   When it's cold, it's very cold

Eating utensils   Paper plates are available from the supermarket but you may need knife and forks if your not reliant on the barbeque

Cup / Mug   If you want tea or coffee in the morning an essential requirement

Torch   Essential for when hunting around the tent at night for the toilet roll

Wash Kit   Advisable to bring if you want to stay in the tent

  Deodorant   See wash kit)

Sun Cream   Recommended, it has been very hot for the last few years

Toilet Roll   You could be in trouble if you forget it

Air Bed   Don't forget a pump

Wet Gear   Just in Case

Bin Liners   To separate Wet & dry clothes

Matches   You can't have enough

Tea Bags   Essential if you don't like coffee, tea bags are not readily available

Chair   If you intend sitting down

Camera   For those memorable moments

Ticket Holders   Handy for keeping everthing together

Mobile Phone   International roaming unblocked

Mobile Phone Charger   Preferably 12volt
